The Shoals Democratic Club is looking for qualified candidates who will work hard to make our community a better place by running for one of our local or state offices. Running for office isn’t easy, but together, we can move the Shoals forward and show our neighbors what progress looks like.

We’re here to help guide you through the process to qualify for candidacy. Below we’ve outlined the important steps to take to make it happen. But if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

Choose An Office

The Shoals Democratic Club consists of the Lauderdale and Colbert County Democratic Executive Committees, with each Executive Committee responsible for vetting candidates running for county office within their respective jurisdictions. Below are the county offices for Lauderdale and Colbert Counties.

Meet The Qualifications

The next step to getting your name on the primary ballot is to meet the qualifications for the office you’re seeking. The state of Alabama has outlined minimum qualifications for each public office.

Depending on the position you’re seeking, it also may be necessary to check which district you live in.

Complete Qualifying Paperwork

Now that you’ve chosen an office to run for and determined that you’re qualified, the next step is to file with your respective County Democratic Executive Committee. To qualify for the 2024 election cycle, download the form below and return it completed to the appropriate location listed below before November 10, 2023 at 5:00pm.

File With The State

The final technical step to qualifying for office is to complete the necessary paperwork with Alabama’s Secretary of State office. The law requires every candidate to organize a campaign finance committee and file an APPOINTMENT OF PRINCIPAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE form, which lists who serves on the committee. The committee form must be filed within five (5) days of becoming a candidate.

Candidates must also file a STATEMENT OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS form with the State Ethics Commission no more than five (5) days after the date they file their qualifying papers with the appropriate election official.
